Water Lesson

I learned a lot today that will help me live deliberately. One of which was learning to create a poem in the similar to the poem, The Apple Pie That Papa Baked. In our group we took something relating to rivers, and we each wrote one sentence. I wrote the sand, tan and gritty. We combined each of our sentences together to make the final poem. I thought that this was very interesting, and I liked how everyone’s ideas combined, even though they were each unique.

Today we were put in five groups and we rotated stations to help us learn the importance of preserving water. A new term that I learned is called a watershed. A watershed is many rivers connecting to one, and it’s important to understand how any pollution of one part will affect others. I learned that when one part is polluted, it will carry down and infect larger areas of wildlife, unless it is stopped. That is why it’s important to test the water regularly and report any pollution you see. This will help me to live deliberately because I understand how any pollution will affect the water negatively, so I will be able to speak out against these issues. I will also be able to appreciate Dayton’s rivers even more.

My group’s first station was a brief presentation. I thought that this was a good opening because we got a broad perspective. Then we saw the CCT, and it was super cool! The CCT is a camera meant for pipes. It looks in the pipes, and based on the view the workers can report errors, and sometimes even repair them with the CCT I thought it was funny they picked up a raccoon. We also went into the River Mobile. I had went there in 7th or 8th grade, so I knew some of the answers already. Then we went back inside and learned about careers. I thought the girl’s job was really cool. It was super helpful to hear their insight to college and job interviews. Lastly we went to see how the water was tested, and what factors they test. I really enjoyed this station and seeing the samples. I’m going to yoga now. I’m really enjoying it. Anyway, bye for now!

Writing Prompt:

The River, flowing and free

That held all the water, clear and cold

Where the fish, vibrant and active, swam all day

And the sand, tan and grainy, is river’s foundation

With the mud, damp and squishy, helping to build the solid ground

And the rocks, strong and rough, added the texture to river

With trees, bold and firm, adding the protection

And the hills, tall and wide, that caught the water and sent it back to the

River, flowing and free
