We wrote a recipe poem. A recipe poem is a poem where you describe “ingredients” that form an everyday object. We were able to accomplish this by using a template from the poem, To Make a Prairie. I chose to make mine about the ocean. I really liked this style because it allows you to be very creative. This was definitely my favorite poem so far. 

                I heard many things during my moment of silence. I heard the river flowing down, so I figured I was about to enter the rapids. I also heard the occasional woodpecker. I heard its call every 20 seconds or so. It had the same time pattern, which I thought was interesting. I heard the geese honking super loud as well. The geese and the other students were the only things making really loud noises. The rest of the sounds were peaceful and it was really refreshing. The moment of silence definitely benefited me and I have learned how to live more deliberately because of it. I was able to tune out the other noises, and listen to the sounds of nature that I hadn’t heard before. I felt I was one with nature after my moment of silence, and I was able to maintain this newfound oneness.

              I had a lot of fun today. I was super excited we were kayaking today. I had previously kayaked, but never on a river, so was I excited to see the difference. I had a great time, and I managed not to tip over. I also went swimming and jumped off the rope. It was super fun in the moment, but I regretted it later because I was freezing. Other than that I had a great time. My friends and I even made some kayaking games and it was nice to hang out together. Then we had lunch and played camp games. We also balanced on logs. I had been to the location once before, but I definitely enjoyed it more this time. I can’t wait for the hiking trip tomorrow!
